Vietnamese texting slang decoder
Paste a Vietnamese message — the one-letter shorthand, the dropped tone marks, the cute-speak — and get the full words with what they actually mean. Nobody teaches this and everybody texts it.
Highlighted words carry the full form on hover. Words that are just missing their tone marks get them back automatically — the same engine as the accent restorer, run after the shorthand is expanded.
Why a textbook leaves you stranded here
Vietnamese texting compresses hard. Whole words collapse to one letter — k is không, j is gì, r is rồi — tone marks get dropped wholesale, and spellings mutate on purpose to sound friendlier (khum for không). A learner who has only met textbook Vietnamese can read every word of a message and understand none of it.
Register is the part that bites. This shorthand belongs to friends, Zalo and dating. It does not belong in a message to your landlord — and 12 entries below are marked recognise, don't use, because knowing what they mean and being the foreigner who says them are very different things.
